Kunming, Yunnan province, China

Kunming is a prefecture-level city and capital of Yunnan province,

in southwestern China. It is the political, economic,

communications and cultural centre of Yunnan,

and is the seat of the provincial government.

It is also home to several universities, museums, galleries and

other important economic, cultural, and educational institutions.

Kunming is located at an altitude of 1,900 m above sea level

and at a latitude just north of the Tropic of Cancer.

Kunming has an estimated population of 5,740,000

including 3,055,000 in the urban area

and is located at the northern edge of the large Lake Dian.

It is often called the "Spring City".

The parking maids looked professional in their uniforms.

Historical structures are preserved.

Kunming consists of an old, previously walled city,

a modern commercial district, residential and university areas.

But also modern, like this tribute to the city's firefighters.

I feel it's significant that the city government building and this church

are close to each other.

Over the past 17 years, thousands of Black-headed gulls have flown south from Siberia to the city every winter. They are a tourist attraction at Green Lake.
